Johnson is not an easy recruit to get a hold of contact wise, and that’s also true on the football field as well where opposing defenses were chasing after the 2022 recruit all in 2020. The extremely skilled receiver had 52 receptions on 900 yards and 17.3 average with 12 touchdowns. He was without a doubt one of the top receivers in all of 4-A last year. Johnson first got on our radar after making an elite catch his sophomore year where he showed FBS level ball skills. It’s hard to know for sure where his recruitment is currently, but he does have an offer at least from this year from Liberty. Johnson has outstanding hand-eye coordination and has no problem hauling in passes with multiple defenders around him. Johnson has honestly some of the best hands in the class of 2022. He is an above average route runner with good agility. Going up against all kinds of D1 talent at DB and Johnson just continues to beat the DB. He has very good body control, and is able to bounce off tacklers despite being a lighter receiver. He’s probably about 5’11” now and has been listed at 155 for a few years now, but would guess he is over 160 at this point. Johnson has very good running vision in the open field. He is very alert at reading the defense finding seams. He does a great job of getting up field quickly and definitely has above average speed. There is too much to like with Johnson. There is a chance his production drops off some his SR year with more of an ATH at QB compared to a Troy commit, and that could create an opportunity for the 2022 recruit to slip through the cracks. He should dominate camps this summer in 1v1’s. I think the biggest concern schools will have is his top end speed, but we think with more weight added in the lower body then Johnson should make strong improvements in that respect.
