Player Spotlight: Reggie Smothers WR Clarke Central

Reggie Smothers is the most recent winner of our Recruit Georgia Play of the Day. The lanky wide receiver won the vote with a miraculous catch, where he literally pulled the ball off a defender’s helmet, and then broke free down the sideline for an impressive 80-yard touchdown.

Smothers has been working hard this offseason and has a positive mindset heading into the 2016 football season. “The ultimate goal for next season is to win the state championship,” Smothers said with confidence.

Reggie SmothersThe senior wide receiver believes his biggest strengths on the field is his physicality, aggressiveness, and ability to get off a press. He is focused on improving the small details and has one area specifically in mind. “I need to improve on stacking the DB once I get off the press.”

Smothers’ favorite position to play is wide receiver and he models his game after Falcon’s Pro Bowl wideout Julio Jones. He has a really impressive set of hands, and is more than capable of performing an acrobatic catch like Jones. Smothers tracks the deep-ball well, but we would like to see him sell his fakes more, and continue to improve his hip flexibility.

Mid-majors are very interested in the 5’11” 166-pound the receiver, but no one has submitted an offer just yet. “I’ve been hearing from Middle Tennessee State, Miami (Ohio), Marshall, Samford, and UNC Charlotte.”

Smothers doesn’t plan on taking any visits this fall, at least not yet. If you are interested in recruiting the 5’11” 166 pound wide receiver click HERE to view his profile.
