Over the last few years, we’ve seen Ethan Cahill make some electric plays. The consistent senior receiver has great hands, making some extremely tough catches with defenders over the top, but it was last week’s game against Archer where his dexterous digits were on display.
Archer was lined up for a 37-yard field goal kick. Cahill, out to the side, fired off the edge, timing the snap near-perfectly and blocking the field goal, but the play was not done. Like a bloodhound, Cahill tracked the football, catching it off the bounce and running it back 70 yards for a score.
The North Forsyth senior earned top play of the week honors and was later voted the #2 play of the week.
“Senior year so far has been good to me personally, but we are still working for our team goals,” Cahill said.
Cahill has spent the offseason expanding his game to become a more complete player. He talked about his focus over the last 12 months.
“I think I’ve improved the most in my screen destruction on defense and versatility on offense, playing multiple positions,” he said.
As a junior, he pulled down four interceptions, 24 tackles, and had 331 yards receiving with four scores. Of note, Cahill was a big play waiting to happen, averaging 27.6 yards per catch with a long of 75 yards, which really brings into focus his potential for momentum-swinging touchdowns.
“My goals for senior year are to be better than last year, of course. Stat-wise, I’m hoping to double from last year and help win our team a region championship and win in the playoffs,” he said.
Through two games, Cahill has 65 yards receiving on five receptions and 6 tackles with one for a loss. Along with the electric blocked field goal and return for a score, of course.
On the recruiting front, Cahill gave a quick update from all of the schools he is hearing from.
“Yale, Bucknell, Centre, Marist, Georgia Military College, but no official offers yet. So far, no visits planned for the fall, but I’m sure I’ll be going on some at some point, like last year,” he confirmed.
The first-team All-Region athlete’s explosiveness and quickness (4.18 shuttle) have put him firmly as a senior sleeper recruit. We have seen the 2027 athlete make electric plays throughout his career, and if the rule of the #RGTop10 holds, Cahill isn’t making electric plays by coincidence.
