Lovejoy owns one of the biggest wins from Week 4 with a 35-31 score over 6A’s East Coweta. Making the game-winning touchdown run was SR QB Ryan Henson, who has been off to a great start to the season thus far with 380 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and 283 rushing yards, and another 4 touchdowns.
“So far, the senior year has gone great. It’s been a lot of adversity during our season so far, and it truly is a blessing how it’s shaping us as a better team.” Henson continued to talk about the win over East Coweta, “I feel that beating East Coweta is laying a strong foundation for the season as we were able to overcome adversity and obstacles and come together to get the win.”
Henson’s game-winning touchdown was among the plays of the game, but what also caught our eye was a 75-yard touchdown where he shook down a defender at the line of scrimmage and was gone. Those kinds of explosive plays make all the difference in a heated matchup, and earned Henson a spot in the top 10 plays of the week, where he was eventually voted the #3 play.
An undefeated start, along with a major 6A win, has galvanized the Lovejoy community into championship aspirations in Class 5A.
“My goal for this season is to be the best player. I could put my team in the best position to win and go all the way to not only the region championship but state,” Henson confirmed.
The game has slowed down for Henson during his senior year. While showing his best efficiency ever, the senior QB has improved by becoming more vocal as a leader, too.
“Some things have improved from last year, which was definitely leadership being more aggressive and talking with the defense gives me an overall IQ of the game,” he said.
As of now, Henson has talked with Reinhardt, Montana State, and Northern University. The 6′ 190 lbs. dual threat passer has looked great so far, showing good instincts escaping out of the pocket and making plays. He has excellent grades with a 3.7 GPA, so he is the complete picture of a student-athlete.
“Some things that I can do with the next level that separates me is not only I can make plays, but I am also a coach on the field, I’m willing to put my pride aside and do whatever it takes to put my team in the best position to win,” Henson said.
Winning can be infectious, and right now, the players over at Lovejoy are running a fever of 3-0. No doubt, Henson will start to see more colleges jump on board in the coming weeks and months, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on him and athletes across the state of Georgia.
