Kendall Lawrence Commits To Georgia State

Georgia State received big news today when they landed Campbell HS star athlete Kendall Lawrence. The class of 17 prospect announced his commitment on Twitter earlier today:

The Panthers now have three player verbally committed from Campbell HS with Lawrence’s announcement today. He joins teammates Jordan Ballard (SDE 6’5″ 255) and Mehki McKinney (OT 6’4″ 276) – two athletic high-potential interior lineman with gigantic frames to tack on more weight.

Back to Lawrence, who chose Georgia State over offers from Army, Navy and Mercer. Georgia State was the first school to offer Lawrence on April 28th and their persistence early on was a key factor in his decision.

“I decided to join the Panther Family because of the love they have shown from the first time I was on campus up until now. They provide a loving family environment that I feel is unmatched,” said Lawrence.

The rising senior has worked hard over the last few years to achieve this conclusive moment in his recruitment. Lawrence spoke about how it feels to be finally done with the process. “It’s such a great relief to be done with the recruiting process, now I can grind with no distractions and focus on my senior season.”

The Campbell star athlete plays on both sides of the ball but our staff likes him as a hybrid safety/linebacker position at the next level. Georgia State throws in some 3-3-5 looks on defense, especially on third down, and Lawrence’s size (6′ 215) and athleticism allows him to cover a lot of ground.

Offensively, Lawrence gets a ton of carries for Campbell HS. He is a workhorse for their team and grinds out tough yards. Lawrence shows good acceleration and burst running between the tackles. That same acceleration should prove to be a difference maker for the Panthers during blitzing packages, as well as pass-coverage situations.

Lawrence is the 9th player to commit to the Panthers for the Class of 2017 and the 4th player from the state of Georgia.
