Kayleem Bonds Talks Offseason

For some prospects, when the season is over, so is football, and they move on to other sports. For Kendrick High School’s Kayleem Bonds, who eats, sleeps and breathes football, the process was just beginning.

“This has been one of the best offseasons I have had in my career,” Bonds said. “We started training around the beginning of January and ever since then I feel like I have improved a lot on my game. Overall, the offseason has been treating me good.”

The young athlete plays on both sides of the ball, so we asked him which position he prefers. “I see myself as a college running back, so at this point I like offense more than defense but defense is where I began playing, and what I live for, and that’s what I will die for.”

At 5’11”, 210 pounds Bonds is a compact athlete with tree trunks for legs, making him terribly hard to knock down on first contact. He was offered by Shorter University last week and said multiple colleges are interested in his services.

Bonds has been focusing on improving his vision when running through holes and exploding out of his jump cuts. The explosive young athlete has been living in the weight room and has gained about 15 pounds of muscle since last fall.

His upcoming goals for the season are to “take every game step by step and defeat every opponent step by step.” Bonds has his eyes on winning a region championship and believes his hard work has pushed his team forward.
