In the Trenches with Nathan Jones

Senior Nathan Jones out of Trinity Christian was an instrumental part of their state championship team last year in Class A Private. The 2023 lineman cleared the way for one of the most balanced offensive attacks in the state of Georgia last year, but a lot has changed over the last year.

“My senior year has been great so far. I decided it would be best for me to switch from offensive tackle to an inside guy. The season had a rough start with us going 0-2 but we have been able to turn it around. As the only returning offensive lineman and being the only senior on the line, it has given me the chance to lead and the ability to make an impact on the younger lineman who looks up to me for guidance and encouragement,” Jones said.

The 6’2″ 300 lbs. offensive lineman has always impressed, and back in August, we put him on our Preseason All-State team in 4A. He has long arms, which allows him to get excellent leverage and his wide frame pushes defenders out of the way with ease.

Last week, he had arguably his best game of the year with a 97% blocking grade and earned a spot on our Bully Squad for Week where eventually he won ‘Lineman of the Week.’ On the season, he is at a 93% blocking grade and has been cooking up more pancakes than your local IHOP.

“Currently, I am around 43 on my pancakes for the season and can’t wait to get even more,” Jones exclaimed.

The senior notes that he has improved his hand placement, footwork, and punch over the last year. His film shows more power at the point of attack and he is finishing his blocks with more knockdowns.

On the recruiting front, Jones is seeing continued interest from college programs and just a few days ago Alabama State jumped into the picture.

“Recruitment has been good for me recently, I just received a PWO from Alabama State 2 days ago. This weekend I will be attending their homecoming game against JSU and can’t wait to see how they perform. Alabama State is the only visit I have planned so far but I am looking forward to visiting many more colleges,” he said.

Sufficient to say that Jones has been playing his best football ever. With the 2nd half of the season underway, his focus now turns to several goals he would like to achieve.

“For the remainder of the season, I plan to continue leading the offensive line unit and the team to the best of my ability. One of my goals this season is to of course win another regional and state championship and to make the 1st team all-region offense and the all-state list,” Jones stated.

Those goals will become more clear in the coming weeks, but it does seem like Trinity Christian as a whole is getting back on track. Last week’s 3-0 victory over #6 ranked Starr’s Mill shot them back into the #10 spot in 4A for Week 8.
