Ezell Tells All in Latest Update

We don’t typically see a prospect make the top 10 plays twice in a season, let alone a sophomore, but Reed Ezell has done just that. The Cartersville defensive back once again made a highlight reel interception, but this time in the clutch.

With his team up 21-14 in overtime against Cass, all they needed was a stop to seal the game. The sophomore was shaded out to the right in zone coverage. As the Cass QB rolled out to Ezell’s side of the field, the sophomore intuitively rotated over and read the play. He then made an incredible one-handed interception and perfectly toe-tapped in bounds.

“It felt good to have the game-clinching interception but it took way more than just that play to win the game. Our team fought all night,” Ezell said.

The game was sealed, and Cartersville remains undefeated on the year. Ezell is someone that we covered earlier in the season and has been a breakout player improving each week of the season so far.

“The season has been great since the last time we talked. We are 2-0 in the region and looking to win out.” Ezell continued, “Each game this year I feel like I’ve gotten more and more comfortable at the varsity level which has helped.”

After the season, the sophomore wants to focus on getting faster so he have a greater impact a year from now. Considering the twitchiness of Ezell, as he continues to fill out his frame he should be able to improve his speed nicely.

In the here and now, Cartersville sits at #2 in our Week 9 rankings for 5A and will certainly be a player for the state title. They are a talented team with a lot of depth, so Ezell is still just trying to make his mark on the program, but it’s hard to ignore his penchant for defensive highlights during his sophomore campaign.

We look forward to seeing additional film as the fall continues to progress for Ezell, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on the Cartersville sophomore and players all over the state.
