Chattahoochee County tailback Ty Lucas was Week 4’s top play winner. The fleet-footed senior took the winning vote on an amazing play where he spun off two tackles almost simultaneously then capped off the run with +10 yard stiff arm into the endzone.
No doubt, Lucas is a hard back to tackle. He can change directions on a dime, and shake defenders with relative ease, then showcases the speed to break away. We asked the 2018 student-athlete where his biggest strengths lie on the field.
“My speed definitely. I’ve worked so hard to get my speed up and me becoming faster just helped with my elusiveness when running the ball,” Lucas replied.
Over the offseason Lucas switched over from Columbia to Chattahoochee County High School. The senior is a true believer in hard work, and during that time he focused on improving himself as a complete athlete.
“I try to get better at something everyday and work hard it. I was taught that there’s always something you can work on to get better no matter how good of a player you are. This offseason I worked on my versatility to play multiple positions, which is a strength for me, I think. I play running back, middle linebacker, and longsnap too.”
The season has started off strong for Lucas’s squad. They now have a 2-1 overall record and undefeated in region play. Tonight, they play a tough home game against Mitchell County, which is a team just outside the top 10 in our rankings, and should be a great test for his squad.
For Lucas, his expectations for the remainder of the season are high, not just in the win/loss column, but also for his teammates personal growth.
“My goals for the remainder of the season are more goals for my team instead of just myself. I wish to make a playoff run being a 1 or 2 seed. I just want this season to be the type that everyone on my team gets better at something, even if it’s about being a better person in faith, and not necessarily football.”
The 2018 recruit doesn’t really model his game after one specific player, and takes a little bit from each player to improve his game. At 5’10”, and 185 pounds Lucas certainly showcases legit quickness, and he makes defenders miss in tight spaces. Just like so many productive running backs he keeps his feet moving through contact, and displays outstanding balance as well.
A number of schools have reached out to recruit him, and Lucas has already been to a few fall visits this season. “I just recently went on a visit to Kennesaw State and I plan to go to Clemson, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, and possibly UGA this fall.”
Options schools should certainly be interested in the super elusive slot back. He is especially effective out in space, and if you go back and watch his junior film, you will see that exciting plays were a regular occurrence. Based off his film, we can certainly see more local colleges becoming involved in his recruitment.
The final remark the senior had to close out the interview was extremely humble, and certainly says a lot about the character of the Chattahoochee County student-athlete. “I would like to thank god for this honor because without him, none of this would happen. I would also like to thank my coaches, parents, and anyone who has helped me become better at my craft. Thanks to Recruit Georgia for this opportunity and hopefully this is the first of many,” Lucas said.
