So far this season, Dunwoody’s Chase Casey has impressed. The junior defensive back has 1 interception and 5 pass breakups on defense, while also creating a few explosive plays with the football in his hands, including a wild kickoff return last week against Lumpkin County.
The ladder mentioned kick off return was truly remarkable, and earned recognition as one of the best plays of Week 4. The junior caught the football at the 10-yard line, found a seam towards the right, and went full speed through. Around the 35-yard line, a defender waited for Casey. They both had each other lined up; a rather large collision seemed imminent, but at that last moment, Casey spun out of the tackle, leaving the Lumpkin County defender tackling air and nothing else. Casey once again accelerated into his top speed, blowing by the kicker, and gliding into the endzone.
The junior was named the #2 play of the week, which really encapsulates the start to his season so far.
“My junior year has started well, and I look forward to continuing my stats so far. My goals for the season are to get my first offer, get 5 int’s, and lead my team to the playoffs,” Casey said.
A new regime has started at Dunwoody under coach Schmitz. The program is 1-2 on the year, playing a tough schedule against a variety of programs, and they look composed to finish the season strong.
Casey was a strong starter as a sophomore and has improved in a number of areas over the last year.
“I would say I improved the most on my technique over the offseason working with trainers and putting it together with my athletic ability,” he said.
He is a dynamic 2027 prospect whose explosive ability to produce big plays has almost manifested into several on the offensive side, and we suspect that Casey will score another touchdown on special teams or in some other capacity before the 2025 season ends.
The junior spoke about what separates him from other 2027 prospects.
“I feel like my game speed separates me from others because I see things quickly and react,” Casey said.
On the recruiting side of things, Casey has a visit planned with North Greenville, which is currently blanketing the state with interest. He has also heard from Georgia Tech, App State, and Stanford.
That’s a wide selection of schools, but the springy 6′ 170 lbs. athlete certainly pops on film; we feel like his recruitment stock will only rise from here, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on Casey and athletes across the state of Georgia.
