DK Winn’s Senior Year Bananza

Elbert County’s DK Winn is off to an impressive start to his senior year. With an average of 165 yards per game, and 3 total touchdowns, Winn has been impacting the game with highlight reel plays where his great athleticism is on display.

Last spring’s Class A DI Triple Jump Champion shows that kind of explosive athleticism from the first two games of the season. During game 1, Winn scored on a long kickoff return, and then last Friday against Stephens County, Winn took a short screen pass for a score.

What looked like a simple, conservative red zone pass then manifested into one of the top plays of the week. Winn caught the football on the left sideline, and immediately, a defensive lineman was bearing down, but the senior quickly slid by. Then Winn oriented his shoulders upfield, knifing through the pursuit, breaking a few tackles, spinning out towards the sideline, where he dove the final few yards to complete the 18-yard touchdown.

The twitchy, explosive nature of the run after catch highlights Winn’s big playmaking ability, and rightfully earned him a spot in the top plays of the week on Sunday night. Another 24 hours later, and Winn was voted the #2 play of the week.

“So far, my senior season hasn’t been bad, but I look forward to helping my team win more games this season,” Winn said.

The Blue Devils are 0-2 on the season, with several tough losses to local rivals, and will be tested once again this Friday against Wesleyan, the #7 team in Private.

“My goals for this season are to help my team get a region championship and also a state title,” Winn exclaimed.

Starting against tough competition will pay dividends later down the season for Elbert County. As they gear up for region play, seniors like Winn will be crucial in achieving those kinds of lofty goals. No doubt, the 2025 season is a test for Winn, one that he prepared for during the offseason.

“My biggest improvement from last year is adding more finesse to my game, and also my upper and lower body strength.”

At 6’2″ and 170 lbs, Winn has the prototypical athleticism you look for in skill players. He is a quick-twitch athlete who can explosively change gears, throwing defenders off pursuit angles and creating momentum-swinging plays. The senior is a consummate student-athlete, sporting a 3.8 GPA, and believes his IQ on the field is a major difference on the field.

“At the next level, I will be able to separate myself by football knowledge and identifying coverages before the ball is snapped, and also, being able to make the first tackler miss,” he enthusiastically said.

On the recruiting front, Winn has heard from Coastal Carolina, Georgia Tech, Liberty, Tennessee-Martin, and UVA-Wise. The explosive start to the season should only cement Winn as a D1 prospect, and we feel like his recruitment is on the precipice of exciting news, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on Winn and athletes across the state of Georgia.
