Dalton Duo Catching Power 5 Interest

Kyric McGowan and Zeke Cobb are two Dalton High School receivers who are setting the recruiting trail on fire this spring.

The two rising seniors have received a ton of interest this spring, going from relatively unknown to coveted FBS recruits. Dalton assistant coach Brad Smith spoke with us about the two playmakers and what makes them attractive to colleges.

“Zeke and Kyric are tremendous football players. If I could describe them with one word it would be: Physical! Both of them are great athletes.”

Both players are capable of big plays but showcase contrasting play styles. Coach Smith offered his thoughts about each player and their unique talents.

“Zeke is the best receiver I’ve seen block on the perimeter. (He) obviously has great size at 6’4″ 198 – a huge advantage with one on one match ups.”

“Kyric is a super talented corner, receiver, kick returner, and running back. He is most well rounded kid I’ve ever coached (and) he has a 3.7 GPA. He runs 4.47 forty yard dash and 40″ vertical. The crazy thing is he’s only 16. The sky’s the limit for Kyric.”

Smith then offered, “Both are great kids with tremendous upside.”

Each passing day more Power 5 schools become interested in McGowan. His performance at The Opening last month was a breakthrough for his recruitment. He was a top performer at the camp, scoring a SPARQ of 105.39, piquing the interest of college coaches around the country.

Over the last month McGowan has accumulated 16 college offers and become a highly coveted Power 5 college recruit. Duke offered a few weeks back, and the speedy receiver visited last weekend (April 22). He described the visit as “outstanding.”

For Cobb, we first saw him back during his sophomore year when we were scouting former Dalton QB Payton Veraldi. It was evident then that the lanky 6’4″  receiver had the physical tools sought out by Power 5 colleges.

Cobb’s outstanding height coupled with his impeccable timing while high-pointing a pass makes him terrifically hard to guard. He could easily add an additional 20-25 pounds and be a defensive nightmare in the red zone. The Class of ’17 receiver has been offered by Western Kentucky and Mississippi State the last few days, but his recruitment is just gaining steam.

Very few schools have a wide receiver tandem like Dalton. With the evaluation period full go, over the next few weeks the Catamounts will be rolling out the red carpet for interested college coaches seeking their spectacular wide receiver duo.
