Colquitt County’s Williams Attacks the Pass

Some receivers run their routes and go through the motions of getting open, and then there is Colquitt County junior Zay Williams. The 5’11” receiver’s aggressive nature shines through each play, and while the ball is in the air, the 2024 prospect is actively getting in position to make a highlight reel catch.

Just last week Williams made another spectacular catch for the reel. Running a deep route out of the slot, Williams tracked the pass perfectly and made an amazing diving catch over his shoulder to collect a 40-yard pass.

For the junior, catches like last week against Camden County have become quite routine. The junior inherently has great ball skills and shows the reactions to adapt to the pass better than a lot of 2024 recruits we have scouted thus far.

“I improved mostly on the offensive side of the ball. My route running has gotten extremely better, and my ball skills are amazing,” Williams said on where he has made the most progress.

The junior recruit believes this season is going great for his team and himself individually. He said that he is currently leading the region with 23 receptions and 4 receiving touchdowns to go along with 2 rushing scores too.

On the recruiting front, Williams has taken any college visits yet, but the process has really just started for the class of ’24 prospect. We definitely feel that his recruitment will pick up attention over the coming months.

Williams is a solid receiver prospect who can change directions on a dime and shows the reactivity to the pass to make tough contested catches around the sideline or down the middle. The junior is definitely right about his improvement on the offensive side of the ball, where he is a legit threat to make a momentum-swinging play for 7A’s #2-ranked Colquitt County.

He’s an excellent student with a 3.9 GPA and is sure to get the attention of strong academic institutions. We really like the upside of the ’24 prospect, and feel that he should attract the attention of FBS/FCS programs across the country, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to see Williams’ latest highlights and recruiting news in the coming weeks and months.
