Clutch Campbell Delivers Big Win vs Rival

Week 2’s Player of the Week goes to Newnan JR Brodie Campbell. After throwing for 518 yards and 4 touchdowns in a remarkable 60-56 win over rival East Coweta, the 2027 passer easily walked away with our weekly player of the week vote.

Campbell confidently orchestrated a 24-point comeback and made the game-winning touchdown pass to Jaylen Britt with 10 seconds left to play. He spoke about the big win over East Coweta, while assuring the program is focused on their next opponent.

“To win against our rival in that type of game was a real good way of showing that when we keep playing till the final whistle, and everyone believes in the same things, and one goal, we all came together to get it done. It felt really good, and we enjoyed it for a day, then got back to work on Sunday, getting ready for the next week.”

Campbell’s season has been impressive so far. He broke Newnan’s single-game passing record during last Friday’s performance, and through two games, has thrown for 728 passing yards and 7 touchdowns.

“The start of my Junior season has been going really well. We have a great group of older guys and also young guys who contribute. We worked really hard this off-season and will continue to work every day as a team to continue to get better,” Campbell said.

The Cougars are 2-0, and the offense is ripping up the field, averaging 57 points per game. Campbell has been the key factor, and some of the throws made against East Coweta are borderline indefensible. The junior throws with good velocity and looks comfortable negotiating in and out of the pocket, making off-platform passes. Campbell is an aggressive decision-maker whose arm strength locates passes on the sideline that his peers would struggle to complete.

During the offseason, Campbell was focused on improving his strength plus changing his diet.

“An improvement I made was definitely in the weight room and diet. Working with coach Dano every day to get bigger and faster and ultimately gain weight in muscle form. He helps me a lot in my workouts and also making sure we’re eating and continuing to gain weight. Gained about 20 pounds this offseason,” he said.

Big picture, Newnan’s impressive start to the season magnifies the rest of the schedule, and the Cougars appear to be one of the top programs in 5A. And while that narrative matters to the media and talking heads, Campbell is focused on the small details, living in the moment, each week.

“Goals for the season are to continue to get better as a player and as a leader every day and every chance we have to come together as a team. Continue to build a bond with the guys that will show in moments when we need to be one and come together as a team. And ultimately, going 1-0 every week is the goal.”

On the recruiting front, Campbell spent the summer going to college camps. where he successfully landed two G5 offers along with good camp sessions at UGA, Ole Miss, and Alabama. At 6’3″ and 185 lbs., the junior passer has the tool set to attract major FBS attention.

“Recruiting process is not as fast-paced in the fall because of their seasons getting started, but I did pick up a Troy and Georgia State offer over the summer, and visited a bunch of other places, as well, that I have a bunch of interest in.” He continued to talk about visits, “We’re going on visits to Georgia, Georgia Tech, Troy, Coastal Carolina right now, and more will be added as the fall goes along!”

No doubt, if the junior passer continues to set defenses ablaze, we can imagine the college interest will equally heat up, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on Campbell and athletes across the state of Georgia.
