Monroe Area junior Jadyn ‘Jitt’ Carr had an opening week to remember. The running back was set loose against Loganville and totaled 324 yards and 3 touchdowns in their 49-20 blowout victory.
The action started in the 3rd quarter when the score was 28-20 in favor of Monroe Area. They had the football on the 22-yard line and needed an answer. Carr took a handoff and immediately sprinted off tackle toward the right sideline leaving the pursuit in the dust. Until around midfield, where Carr navigated around one defender, but that maneuver led to several more defenders breathing down his neck. Carr reacted quickly, stiff-arming a Loganville defender, and then hit the jets, or maybe Jitt, as Carr is often called, crossing the endzone with several Loganville defenders diving in the background.
When asked about the great start to his season, Carr replied, “I feel great about my junior year but I know there’s still a lot of room for improvement so I’m still going to work hard to get better 1% every day.”
The momentum-swinging play created a 35-20 lead and the eventual blowout win for Monroe Area. One could argue that the 78-yard run marked a pivotal moment for their night win against a bitter rival, Loganville.
“In Tony the Tiger voice, it feels ‘GREAT’ beating my crosstown rivals as we’ve prepared all summer just to go out there and finally realize the results,” the jestfully Carr explained.
The spectacular impact of his run was so great it earned him a spot in the top 10 plays of the week, where he was ultimately voted the top play of the week on Monday night.
Carr’s opening game exploits are a testament to the hard work and dedication Carr sought during the offseason.
“All summer I’ve been pouring out blood, sweat, and tears training and as of week 1, I can surely tell that I’ve improved on my agility,” he said.
Dial back to his sophomore year, and Carr’s explosiveness was evident, but the athlete you see in 2024 is experienced, focused, and ready to compete. He talked about goals he would like to achieve for the remainder of the season.
“Some major goals I have for this season are to receive my first offer, become All-State, and l want to finish the season with over 2k rushing yards.”
Before the season started, Carr would get a skeptical look for a comment like that aside from ardent supporters of the Monroe Area community, but with 300 yards under his belt, and at least 9 more games to opportunize, anything is possible.
On the recruiting front, Carr said, “No college visits planned for the fall so far but I know they’re on the way.”
No doubt about that, especially if Carr continues his great start to the year. This upcoming Friday, the Hurricanes square off against another nearby rival in Cedar Shoals, and that will be another great opportunity for Carr to shine.
