Breakout Season Imminent for RB Jake Mock

New Bulloch Academy transfer Jake Mock opened up his senior season with a bang by winning Scrimmage Week’s Top Play. Mock ran away with the vote late Monday night, totaling about 2700 votes and rightfully so.

For the winning play, the new senior weaved through the entire coverage team on a 79-yard kick return, that was capped off with a nasty stiff arm on the sideline. Mock played his HS ball last season in Charleston, SC but moved during the summer back to his hometown of Statesboro to finish off his senior year of HS.

We spoke with Mock about his recruitment, the upcoming season, and his expectations.

“My goals as an individual this season are to help my team contend for a state title as best I can, while trying to put up good numbers and pick up some offers,” Mock said.Jake Mock

The class of ’17 running back might have moved to new a location geographically speaking, but an offseason injury had him spending most of his time resting and studying game film.

“I spent most of this offseason recovering from a minor hamstring injury, so I spent my time watching film and doing any physical activity I could.”

Mock 5’9″, 170-pounds, models his game after De’Anthony Thomas, and if you watch his 1st scrimmage in the film above, you will see why. The Bulloch Academy senior runs with a ton of patience; he utilizes his blocks excellently, and when he sees a seam he turns on the jets. He is especially effective on kickoffs, where his natural running instincts truly shine.

Mock is a hard worker and believes he can never stop improving his craft. “I still need to improve on my downhill running and I would also like to improve on my change of direction more.”

Being a new transfer to Georgia, a player’s recruitment can be lost in the shuffle for a period of time, but for Mock, colleges have remained in contact.

“I’ve heard from a few colleges including Brown, WashU, Presbyterian, Wingate, Earlham, Columbia, and Jacksonville.”

With his fall schedule now in place, the class of 17 running back plans on touring a few colleges.  “As of right now I plan on visiting WashU, Presbyterian, and Wingate.”
