Centennial has a hard-nosed, two-way playmaker emerging in their backfield in sophomore Jacobi Scott. Built like a fire hydrant at 5’10” and 196 lbs., the stout athlete is starting to gain comfort and confidence in the backfield.
Scott grabbed the spotlight during last week’s game against St. Pius. The dynamic sophomore took a handoff and immediately bounced outside with several defenders in pursuit. Scott brought out the stiff arm, planting two defenders into the ground, then sprinted down the sideline for a 40-yard score.
The play capped a dominant two-way performance, giving Scott 73 yards on eight carries while adding 11 tackles on defense. The sophomore’s incredible play earned him a spot in the weekly top 10 plays on Sunday night, and 24 hours later, he was voted the state’s #3 play.
“I would describe my season so far as just being the best version of me every game,” Scott said.
Since watching him live during a Week 1 matchup against Dunwoody, Scott’s confidence has clearly skyrocketed. He is far more decisive running between the tackles, picking through running lanes and moving the chains.
When asked where he has grown the most since his freshman year, the sophomore pointed to his burst in the open field, noting, “Where I have improved the most since last season is my breakaway speed, and getting better in general.”
His production on both sides of the ball backs up that growth. So far this season, the sophomore has tallied 471 total yards, rushing for 325 and receiving 124 yards, while racking up 38 total tackles at linebacker.
For the remainder of the fall, Scott’s mindset is incredibly straightforward: “Just be the best version of me and ball out.”
On the recruiting front, Scott has not heard from any college programs yet and has no visits planned. That said, his recruitment has barely even begun, and with his stout frame, versatility, and growing confidence, Scott is a prime candidate to make an explosive jump. A year from now, we suspect Scott is set for a junior season, but in the here and now, the sophomore prospect is cutting his teeth on the varsity.
