North Forsyth senior athlete Ethan Cahill is proving to be a rare weapon on special teams, making plays that we’ve never seen repeated by the same player in one season. Back in Week 2, the 6’0″, 165-lb. standout senior made the Top 10 Plays of the Week by blocking a field goal and returning it all the way for a touchdown. Incredibly, Cahill repeated once more in last Thursday’s Week 6 game against West Forsyth.
Making game-changing plays is nothing new for Cahill, who earned 1st-Team All-Region honors as a junior. Now, he’s helping lead a Raiders squad that is finding its rhythm with a 3-3 record.
“The season has been getting better, and we are still working some things out, but definitely starting to play up to our standard,” Cahill said.
Pulling off a blocked kick-and-score once is a highlight; doing it twice shows that Cahill has a unique talent for timing the snap and incredible hand-eye coordination to catch the football off the bounce, then jet away for a score. Cahill talks about his unique skill set.
“A big part of blocking kicks is not false stepping, and that’s also how I’ve improved at it,” he explained. “My get-off has just gotten more consistent.”
As North Forsyth heads into a BYE this week, Cahill’s blocked field goal total stands at 3 on the season. The final four games will be tough region matchups, and Cahill is laser-focused on winning in bringing home a region title.
“We are still shooting for a region championship, and I’m just trying to finish up my season the best I can,” he noted.
College programs value athletes who excel in all three phases of the game, especially those who pair on-field production with a flawless 4.0 GPA in the classroom. Cahill’s hard work is already starting to pay off at the next level, as he noted, “I received an offer from Culver-Stockton a couple of weeks ago.”
A high-academic prospect with a 1st-Team All-Region pedigree, great hands, and quickness to play across the field, giving him the tools to be a true special teams ace at the next level, will make a bigger impact than you realize. Cahill is an explosively underrated athlete to watch, and as North Forsyth pushes toward a region title, we’ll be there covering his senior season.
