Whitewater’s David Duru is an explosive three-year starting linebacker who has built an impressive resume. During his junior season, the 6’1″ 220 lbs. athlete had 74 tackles on the year while causing two fumbles and also rushing for 510 yards and 11 touchdowns.
With the offseason well underway, Duru has shifted gears, balancing his multi-sport schedule while also training.
“The offseason has been going well. I play two other varsity sports — basketball and track — so they take up a lot of my time, but whenever I can, I make sure to get extra training in,” he said.
Duru first hit our radar during the summer of 2025, when, at just 15 years old, Duru power cleaned 315 lbs. That’s an elite lift, but it also intriguingly suggests that he is younger than most in his class.
He is a demolition stick on the field, detonating with explosive hits throughout his film. Colleges have taken notice, and the athletic Whitewater defender has seen offers lately from Army, Navy, and Troy.
When asked if any school stands out, Duru said, “Right now I’ve been in the most contact with Navy, so they stand out to me at the moment.”
Hearing that both service academies have offered comes as little surprise for an academically inclined student like Duru, but the senior admitted that he is also looking at the whole picture.
“I maintain a 4.1 GPA, and while academics are very important to me when making my decision, I also want the football side to be the right fit,” he said.
With this upcoming season being his last at the high school level, we asked what goals Duru would like to achieve.
“Going into my senior season, one of my biggest goals is continuing to grow as a leader for my team while helping us make a deep run in the state playoffs, and personally, I want to be dominant on both sides of the ball and show my versatility,” he said.
An All-State caliber season could certainly be in the cards for Duru, but for now, the evaluation period looms large. With programs circling the state in April and May, we believe the 2027 off-ball linebacker will be busy fielding offers and interest, so be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear the latest on Duru and athletes across the state.
