The multi-talented Purdy puts on a lot of hats for the Dragons. He is a standout receiver, totaling over 600 yards each season, and heading into Round 1 of the playoffs, he is at 612 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns, while also producing at a high level across the field on defense with 25 tackles and 2 interceptions. Purdy has 26 career receiving touchdowns and is among the active leaders in the state. After watching him each season, you can really see the athletic improvements he has made on film. Purdy is releasing upfield, accelerating quickly in short spaces to pick up big chunks of yardage. He’s made major improvements in the weight room, going up 50 lbs with his power clean, improving his squat at a similar pace. Vertical inch is now 33″, which, considering his 6’2″ frame and great hands, Purdy seems like a hidden gem at the moment. We have seen plenty of receivers with his archetype produce at a high level. Purdy is just a complete football player, does a solid job even punting with an average of 37.5 yards per punt. Continues to improve his pass coverage on defense, looking smooth dropping back and sinking his hips. You have to like how he cleans up a few of his tackles in space. Good impact. Purdy is a smart route runner, pressing upfield on his release, leveraging the zone coverage, and finding pockets. He’s a possession receiver, even has solid film blocking, getting after the DB’s, and being physical with his hands. The jump in explosiveness should be noteworthy – another year like the last, and the 6’2″ receiver would seem like a steal for a D1 program. Local FBS programs should be interested in a PWO becuase his special teams upside is high.
