Pollard has been a 3-year starter at Howard breaking the school record for total tackles in a career. He has been the beating soul of the defense since he was a sophomore. The senior is a big hitter in space, getting downhill and showing zero hesitation before impact. What you get in Pollard is a guy who sees the ball, and hits the guy carrying it. Simple as that. He played a little more in space in an OLB/SS role during his senior year, even getting more action in coverage, but at the end of the day, Pollard is a downhill run-stopping defender. His tackling in space is excellent, and he consistently gets low. Relying on great fundamentals becomes a must for any linebacker around 6′ and 200 lbs, and Pollard is consistent with his strike. While he can play some safety, Pollard still needs to get better in coverage, work on getting quicker in the hips, dropping back, etc. His natural instincts is at the linebacker position. That’s clear as day. That said, if Taye Seymour can transition from linebacker to now a starting safety in the ACC, then Pollard can find his fit too. Finding a player with the intensity and open field tackling of Pollard would be a major recruiting win, especially for smaller schools reviewing seniors under the radar.
