South Forsyth’s Thompson Looking to Make an Impact

The 2020 season is fully underway now, at least for most programs, and a senior that has made an early impact in his team’s first game of the year is Mitchell Thompson out of South Forsyth. Just go back to his film from last Friday where he was basically doing everything on the field, including a 100-yard interception return that earned one of the top plays of the week in Georgia.

It was a miraculous play where the 2021 athlete somehow jumped over the shoulder of the receiver and pulled the football out of his arms in the endzone, then scampered the full length of the field for a score. Thompson is definitely a gamer, and just go checkout his film against Dawson Co. at the top here for additional confirmation.

Like everyone else, the class of 2021 two-way player has had an interesting lead up to this season, but is relieved to be playing football again.

“The off-season was long, but towards the end we all were just eager to get under the lights again,” he said.

The senior believes that overall his athleticism is what separates himself from others in his class, and jumping into some of his film from last season, you do see some legit break away speed, especially against Hillgrove. He models his game after Wes Welker, and figures to be an important part of the South Forsyth offense with the graduation of a big playmaker at the receiver position.

We talked about goals for the remainder of the year, and Thompson concisely responded saying, “My goal is to make an impact in every aspect of the game.”

Well, he certainly did that the other night where he ripped off several long plays against Dawson County. He even had a pretty slick one-handed catch off a snap when punting, because you know, Thompson just happens to be the punter at South Forsyth too.

Right now, only a few schools have been in touch with Thompson so far, and they are mostly smaller local programs. He has certainly started off the year extremely well with 4 receptions and 102 yards receiving – he’s already 1/3rd of the way from last year’s total. Plus he is showing some legit speed here on film, we think more programs will be in contact over the coming months, so stay tuned to @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter to hear the latest on Thompson and the rest of the athletes around the state of Georgia.
