New Hampstead’s Truell is the Truth

New Hampstead’s Rashawn Truell was one of the top passers in the state of Georgia in 2023 with 3302 yards and 38 touchdowns. The talented 2025 QB has been hard at work this offseason, throwing the football regularly throughout the week, and that dedication has culminated this week at the Elite 11 Regionals in Orlando.

Once again, Truell stood above his peers throwing a camp-best 61 MPH ball (the 2nd closest was 58) and was top 7 in the accuracy challenge. All of this comes to no surprise, the 6’1″ 210 lbs. Truell consistently plays beyond expectations and is a true competitor to his core.

We caught up quickly with the rising senior to talk about how the offseason is going so far.

“My offseason has been pretty well; just recently picked up my first offer from Bucknell University and have been on some visits to spring practices! Hopefully, during spring I can get my name out there even more now that I performed well at the Elite 11 regionals,” Truell said.

That should be the case. The QB Hitlist has already noted his achievements from the Elite 11 Camp, and surely college programs have at least turned their attention towards the talented passer.

While Truell is not explosive, he is a functional athlete with good passing mechanics and an excellent release point. He throws the football effortlessly, and with no surprise, at a high velocity.

Truell is fundamentally sound in the pocket, looking comfortable as he climbs the ladder and shifts around the defensive rush. He does a great job of going through his progressions while under pressure, and he routinely catches defensive backs off guard with his deep ball.

While his arm strength is evident in the 2023 film, there appears to be a jump in his explosiveness, at least considering he threw it 61 mph recently.

“I have been working on my footwork, explosiveness, and my body during the offseason,” Truell confirmed.

The hard work is paying off for the 2025 passer. The Bucknell offer shows colleges are peeling back the film, and seeing his immense arm talent; we think more programs will be excited to see him live during the evaluation period.

Truell is set for another great season where he seemingly will compete for the state passing lead. We asked the rising senior what is in store for his final football season.

“My major goal for 2024 is being the best leader of my team and becoming more of a game manager/changer,” he said.

New Hampstead was a talented team in 4A last year, going 3-2 in the toughest region in the classification. Truell was battle-tested and will be again in 2024, but the hard work he is showing now will pay dividends this fall, where the New Hampstead senior will be a frontrunner for All-State QB and a potential player of the year candidate for his classification.

The rest of 2024 should be very exciting for Truell, so stay tuned to @RecruitGeorgia on X/Twitter to hear the latest on Truell and football players across the Peach State.
