Adairsville’s Jay Carson has been an emerging star for the Tigers this season. The speedster has 452 rushing yards on 79 carries for 7 touchdowns, along with 4 receptions for 91 yards.
In Week 5, the explosive back had a huge game, rushing for 230 yards and 4 touchdowns in a big 35-14 win over Pickens. Carson’s terrific performance earned him one of the top performers in the state, and he was earlier this week voted the Player of the Week.
“I would describe halfway through the regular season of my jr year exactly where I want to be. My goals for the remainder of the season are for 1,000 all-purpose yards and to win the region championship with my brothers,” Carson said.
The increase in production is notable for Carson, who made appearances last season on the varsity, but now he is a featured back, getting a workhorse load of reps that is helping his team win big games. The junior quickly talked about what he improved over the last 12 months to reach this level of production.
“I have improved the most in the weight room, vision, and explosiveness,” he said.
Roll back the film on the junior, and you’ll see a back who can make a cut on a dime, with fast-reactive feet, that chop quickly, and drop defenders in the dust. Carson can make a cut inside tight spaces, shows the balance to bounce off tacklers, and an impressive forward body lean to grab yardage through contact.
As of now, no school is recruiting the junior; he is a relative unknown in the recruiting world for now. What he does show on offense is extremely promising, including the skill level to slip out into the flat and become a receiver, even running a deep seam route that burned one defender unprepared for his excellent top-end acceleration.
Carson has a lot to work with, and there is little doubt in my mind that Adairsville will be riding the explosive back for the next 1.5 seasons of his career at the school. So be sure to follow @RecruitGeorgia on Twitter/X to hear more on Carson and players across the state of Georgia.
