Camauri Berry is a 2027 running back out of Spalding looking to make a statement, and he is off to a great start. In Week 1, Berry ran for 167 rushing yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns in a 27-19 win over ELCA.
The terrific night was capped off by a 45-yard touchdown run where, originally, it looked like Berry was set for a loss. The ELCA defense had snuffed out a sweep off tackle, but Berry spun out of one defender, reversed towards the opposite sideline, before cutting back against the grain, splitting through 4 defenders. Berry was in the open and sprinted the final 40 yards, finishing off the electric touchdown.
On Sunday night, Berry was selected to the top 10 plays of the week in the state of Georgia, and 24 hours later, on Monday, he was voted the top play. Needless to say, the start of the season has been excellent.
“I’d say the start of my senior year has been a great start showing how the rest of my season would go,” Berry said.
After his Week 1 standout game, Berry is well on his way to eclipsing last year’s 679-yard total before the halfway mark of the season, but the senior back has much bigger goals in mind.
“For my senior year, I want to have 1,500 all-purpose yards, at least 1,000 rushing yards, and I have plans of going D1 in football,” he said.
Berry had a great spring game rushing for 119 yards on 5 carries and two scores. The back has created a lot of momentum this offseason, focusing on his speed, football IQ, and becoming a leader on a team that is rebounding from a two-win season, the worst season since 2020.
The program is just a few seasons removed from a 12-win season and has historically done great with strong senior athlete rushing between the tackles. Berry looks to be that guy in 2026.
On the recruiting front, the Spalding athlete has heard from a couple of schools.
“I am hearing from two schools right now; that is Shorter University and Navy Football. I don’t have any visits planned yet for this fall, hoping to get some big ones!”
The senior is sure to grab the attention of more schools this fall. Whether he continues to average 15 yards per carry, well, that might end up coming down to earth, but regardless, the senior back is on a mission. The determination, vision, plus timing on his cuts against the grain is a combination that will give teams headaches in 2026.
