Gardner is a long 6’2″ athlete with a well put together frame. He shows pretty good body control going up for a grab. Hands are solid, he does a nice job of rotating away from the defender. Gardner is a player that I’m very interested in from a complete athlete standpoint. His frame and overall coordination is very interesting, and think he can eventually fill out to be about 210-220 lbs. On defense he makes a few really nice tackles, one in a punt coverage situation where he hauls in one of the best PR in the state in a 1v1 situation. Gardner improved a whole lot on the defensive side of the ball his senior year and was one of the stand outs in his region. Length really helps when he is in zone coverage too, breaks up a fair amount of passes where he reads the QB’s eyes. Plays basketball too. Overall he is a plus athlete with a very good motor, and the frame to really grow into the linebacker position. Really made a lot of strides with physicality and getting into the backfield wrecking havoc.
