Dantavian Stephens out of Academy of Richmond County is our most recent winner of the Recruit Georgia’s Top Play award – most likely the final one of the 2017 season too (ARCHIVE). The senior has had himself a season, and is one of the state leaders with 7 interceptions. He has elite hand eye-coordination, which allows him to make amazing catches under very difficult circumstances.
Perhaps no circumstance was under more duress than last weekend where the 2018 star tipped the ball away from a defender, juggled it around until he was able to eventually corral the pass in on the one-yard line. The ball was most likely destined to be broken up, but it was the sticky hands and hustle of Stephens that resulted in what could possibly end up being the best catch of the 2017 season.
Stephens talked about how his senior year has shaped up. “My senior year everything I’ve been waiting on to happen, finally happened, and everything is falling into place.”
The senior is really starting to see an up-tick in his recruitment, and has gone from a relatively unknown recruit, to one FBS/FCS colleges are inviting to games and actively pursuing.
“I have been hearing from Furman, East Carolina, Florida, Florida State and The Citadel.” Stephens continued to talk about upcoming visits, “I have a visit set up to Florida on November 18th and also Florida State on December 2nd.”

Stephens has been playing on both sides of the ball this year, and has made equally impressive plays. He shows a lot of versatility, so we asked if he had a preference.
“I prefer to play defense. I believe my biggest strength is locking down on my opponent at CB,” he exclaimed. No doubt about it, Stephens has been a ball hawk this season, and even had a game where he snagged 4 interceptions.
The electrifying senior is always just one play away from making his next big one that will get the fans up on their feet – he is a human-highlight-reel! His play style seems almost infectious, and you can see his passion beam through while he plays the game.
“My favorite part about playing football is being around my guys and having lots of fun with them on and off the field,” Stephens said.
With the first National Signing Day just about 40 days away, you can expect more local colleges visiting the versatile Augusta playmaker. His athletic upside to go along with his outstanding dexterity separates himself from so many of his peers.
